Year 1 News! This week in English, we have been creating story maps for The Little Red Hen and using them to help us write the story together through a shared write. The children have worked hard to sequence the events and retell the story using key vocabulary. Next week, we will begin to innovate the story as a class by introducing some new characters and creating our own exciting version of the tale. In Maths, we have been learning about 1 more and 1 less than a given number. We started by using concrete resources to help us understand the concept before moving on to pictorial representations. The children then applied their learning with growing independence in their maths books and showed a developing confidence in identifying numbers that are one more and one less. In Geography, we enjoyed a walk around the local area. Using our new understanding of human and physical features, we identified different features within our community and discussed why they belong to each category. The children were enthusiastic about spotting familiar landmarks and making links to their learning. It was an exciting week in Science as we explored our five senses. We used our senses to identify things we could taste, hear, touch, smell and see. The children had great fun taking part in a variety of practical activities and enjoyed investigating the world around them through their senses. Well done, Year 1, for all your hard work this week! Year 2 It has been another busy week of learning in Year 2! In English, we have been enjoying poetry and have been using the power of three to describe the two main characters in our model text. In Maths, we have started exploring subtraction using the column method and are becoming more confident with our calculations. We had lots of fun in Science as we headed outside with our magnifying glasses to explore the microhabitats around our school and see what we could discover. In History, we learned about some of the jobs Victorian children had to do and enjoyed pretending to be Victorian working children during a hot-seating activity. We have also loved getting stuck into our new class book, Oliver Twist, and are already looking forward to finding out what happens next! Finally, thank you to all of the children who have completed some of our homework tasks so far, we have loved seeing your hard work!

Year 6 It has been another fantastic week in Year 6! In maths, we have been learning how to divide a four-digit number by a two-digit number. Homework will be set to support this learning and will be due in next Thursday. In English, we have been completing our shared write on a warning tale, and the children have successfully implemented their newly taught writing tools. In history, we explored what life was like for a child living during World War 2 and how they felt being evacuated to Northampton from London; the children wrote some wonderful letters back home. The girls were thoroughly inspired on our STEM trip to NSG, where they watched a range of exciting experiments and were a credit to the school. During our PSHE lessons, we discussed what peer pressure is and spent time acting out role-play scenes. We had some valuable conversations about how to deal with their friends positively and how to say no. As always, please keep up the three reads, weekly maths homework, and reading quizzes. Year 4 Weekly Update This week in Maths, we have been developing our rounding skills, learning how to round numbers accurately and explain our reasoning. In Talk for Writing, we began our exciting new Tale of Fear text, Zelda Claw. The children explored the opening of the story and started to identify features of suspense writing that help to build tension and keep readers engaged. In History, we learnt about an ancient Egyptian invention called a shaduf, a tool used to lift water from rivers and canals to help irrigate farmland. The children were fascinated by how this simple invention supported everyday life in Ancient Egypt. In Art, the children worked collaboratively in pairs and groups to recreate the famous painting The Great Wave off Kanagawa. They carefully observed the shapes, movement and composition of the artwork and produced some fantastic shared pieces. Well done to Year 4 for another week of enthusiasm, creativity and hard work! 🌟
