Year 6 have had another busy week!
A number of children took the opportunity to participate in Bikeability this week and received their certificated and badges today. The children were able to demonstrate their cycling proficiency and were responsible when taken out of school to cycle in the local area. They showed a great deal of resilience as the temperatures dropped and did not let the cold stop them from having a great time.
In class, we have been continuing reading Goodnight Mister Tom and the children have enjoyed following the story as develops and making predictions based on what they know about the characters and the time period in which the book is set.
In maths, the children have been developing their skills around comparing and ordering fractions, including working with different denominators and mixed numbers. This is an important area of Year 6 maths and support in ensuring that homework is completed is appreciated.
In our English lessons, we have worked together to create a shared journey story based on our text Thog's Journey. Next week, children will be working independently to plan and write their own journey stories.
Thank you, as always, for your continued support.

What a wonderful week we’ve had in Year 6!
The children performed brilliantly during our Remembrance Assembly, confidently sharing their learning from the last half term. They sang beautifully and spoke their lines clearly; we are incredibly proud of them.
In English, we have been focusing on using figurative language effectively in our writing and ensuring that every word earns its place.
In Maths, we have begun our new unit on fractions. The children have worked confidently to simplify fractions using common factors and were able to order fractions once they had been simplified. This week’s homework, which supports this learning, is due on Thursday.
In Art, we explored World War II artwork by Henry Moore. The children selected some of his sketches and created their own interpretations, showing great creativity and attention to detail.
In Science, we investigated inheritance and had fun designing our own Mr Men and Little Miss 'children' to show how characteristics can be passed down.
Please continue with the three weekly reads and regular TTRS practice.
Thank you, as always, for your ongoing support.

This week in Maths, the children have been finding factors of numbers. We then progressed onto finding common factors of pairs of numbers. The children have been set homework on factors to support their learning in class.
In English, we started to learn our new model text, Thog's Journey. The children have been very creative with their actions to help retell the story.
In History, the children wrote their own newspaper reports about an air raid that took place in Northampton during WW2.
In Art, we learnt how to draw our hands, focusing on proportion and detail.
Please continue to support your child by practising times tables on TTRS, reading three times a week, and remembering that maths homework is due Thursday.
Thank you for your continued support.

This week in English, we have been completing our shared write, basing our stories on the model text RED. The children have been wonderfully creative with their ideas and have enjoyed developing their own twists on the narrative. Next week, we will be moving on to our independent writes, and we are really looking forward to seeing their completed pieces.
In maths, we have been learning about long division. The children have been set homework to continue practising and developing their understanding of this method. This is due next Thursday.
In history, we explored why historians look at a range of sources, including both primary and secondary sources. The children had some fantastic discussions and thought carefully about how different sources can give us different perspectives on the past.
In science, we focused on how to stay safe with electrical appliances. We discussed circuit boards, plugs, fuses and sockets, and the children produced some very informative double-page spreads on the topic.
In reading, we have continued with our class text Goodnight Mister Tom. The children have particularly enjoyed making inferences about the characters and exploring how the children in the story feel after being evacuated.
Please keep up with the three reads each week and remember to sign reading records.
Maths homework (long division) is due next Thursday.

This week in Maths, the children have been learning to multiply a three-digit number by a two-digit number. They have brought home some homework to continue practising these skills at home, thank you for your support!
In Science, we continued our learning about electricity. The children were asked to draw a circuit, and then their partner built and tested it. We reflected together: Did it work? Was it a clear drawing? This hands-on approach really helped deepen their understanding.
In English, we have been exploring our model text, Red. The children have written their own endings to the story, some of which were very creative and even a little gruesome! We also wrote poetry describing a park, using vivid language to bring our ideas to life.
In History, our topic of World War II led us to explore what life was like for evacuees. The children wrote some very thoughtful and insightful diary entries, showing great empathy and understanding of this period.
Well done to Year 6 for another brilliant week of learning. Keep up the hard work!

Year 6 have had a fantastic start to the year and have hit the ground running, jumping straight into lessons and showing us what they can do!
We've started a new class novel - Goodnight Mister Tom - which links with the children's learning about World War Two in History. The classes have already shown huge enthusiasm for the subject and have enjoyed sharing stories from their own families.
In Maths, we have been reviewing place value and tackling some much larger numbers. Maths homework will be set every Thursday and is due back the following Thursday - well done to the children this week who spent the time to complete theirs.
In English, the classes have started developing a toolkit for a warning tale, inspired by the short story 'Red'. They have enjoyed using personification and metaphor to write eery descriptions of the classroom at night.
Just a reminder that PE days are Tuesday and Thursday and children should be in black shorts or trousers and a white top.
Thank you for such a great start to the term!
